Feeling Matter delves into cycles of transition through the disciplines of textiles, ceramics, and jewelry. Here the material speaks through its own transformation, as objects are reworked and reinvented the matter changes in form yet the original meaning and memories remain. The participating artists work with living bodies of water, scoby, dust, blood, family heirlooms, discarded furniture, and garments. Dust becomes textile, blood becomes glaze, furniture becomes jewelry, and wardrobes and quilts are deconstructed. In some cases, transformation is not only a process behind the work, but becomes the work itself.
